Description
Ligusticum scoticum – Scots lovage. Very hardy and attractive herbaceous perennial usually found in coastal areas. It is very low maintenance and compact reaching about 60cm (2ft) high and about 40cm across. Leaves and stems have a celery/parsley flavour, so a good perennial substitute for use in the kitchen and seeds can be used for seasoning too. Lots of white flowers over the summer which are beneficial for insects. Grow in sun or part shade, plants can also be divided when they are dormant in winter. Seed sowing advice: Sow during winter through to late spring. Seeds need 3-4 weeks cold stratification, this can be done by sowing and leaving seeds outside or in a cold frame and the cold of winter will naturally trigger germination. Alternatively you can sow seeds in pots or trays of compost, place in a bag in the fridge for 3-4 weeks and then remove. You should see seedlings appear within about 4 weeks. Full instructions will be sent with your pack of seeds.
