Asparagus Connover’s Colossal. A tried and trusted heritage variety from the 1800’s that is early maturing with thick chunky tasty spears, it is one of the best ones to grow. Plants go dormant in winter and re-emerge in spring. Plants may arrive with minimal or trimmed foliage as they are on their way to becoming dormant. You can plant out now and you will get lots of new growth in the spring.

Description

Asparagus Connover’s Colossal. A tried and trusted heritage variety from the 1800’s that is early maturing with thick chunky tasty spears, it is one of the best ones to grow. Plant out approximately 25cm apart, in rows of 45cm apart, keep well watered and start harvesting in their second year, always cutting spears with a sharp knife just below soil level. Give them a good mulch in autumn and cut back any dead fern foliage. These are two year old plants grown from seed and have some very vigorous roots, they really want to escape their pots and get into the ground!
