Korean Mint – Agastache rugosa , a wonderful clump forming hardy herbaceous perennial and non spreading form of mint. The leaves are delicious for making tea or can be added to salads and the stunning lilac coloured flower spikes in summer are beautiful and beneficial to insects especially bees and hoverflies. It can reach over 1m tall in the right conditions. It is a relative of anise-hyssop, but has a more minty, menthol-like smell and flavour. It is really popular in Korea, where it is called banga and is used most often in fish stews or pancakes (the famous Banga-buchimgae). Also medicinal, in China, it is one of the 50 fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. Prefers sun to part shade and can grow in a range of soil conditions, space plants about 30-40cm apart.
