Description
Sculpit/Stridolo – Silene Inflata is a fairly long lived perennial salad herb native to Europe. An underrated edible and ornamental plant with exquisitely beautiful flowers. Its leaves are used throughout Italy for their slightly aromatic flavor much like rocket or chicory, but milder. Plants give a flush of fresh spring growth and can self seed. Aka, Bladder Campion. This perennial edible gets a great write up in Stephen Barstow’s ‘Around the World in 80 plants’. Also known as Carletti, he explains ‘It is one of the most commonly eaten wild perennial plants in the mediterranean area. This plant was so important to the Romans that it was cultivated in Britain and has since naturalised.’ Great for year-round salads as it is very hardy and also good cooked in risotto and omelets.
