Description
Scurvy grass – Cochlearia officinalis. Is a hardy short lived perennial brassica growing 30cm high, with leaves and flowers having a spicy mustard flavour similar to cress. Small amounts can be added to salads or can be cooked. High vitamin C content, hence the name scurvy grass as sailors frequently ate it in the past when suffering from scurvy after returning from long voyages. Best grown in a sunny location and will tolerate a range of soils as long as well drained. Plants can be easily propagated through divisions and will gently self sow, so you will always have it around once introduced.
