Sea Kale – Crambe maritima Lily white – pack of 15 seeds
£3.50
SOW BETWEEN EARLY SPRING AND SUMMER
A long lived hardy herbacous perennial vegetable with early spring shoots, followed by delicious leaves and mini ‘broccoli like’ florets, will grow in any well drained garden soil. Honey scented white flowers attract a host of insect life. These seeds are from our first sea kale production last year, harvested in September 25. To aid germination carefully remove the corky outer cases of the seeds with a scalpel or sharp nail scissors being careful not to damage the seed inside. Sea kale needs warmth to germinate but can be an erratic germinator and can germinate over a very long period. We will add extra seeds to your pack to allow for this and you should end up with a minimum of 10 good plants in total.

Description
Sea Kale, Crambe maritima ‘Lily white’. A really useful hardy perennial vegetable with multiple harvests throughout the season. Early shoots can be forced (in the same way as rhubarb) for a delicious spring vegetable, it is a real delicacy. Young leaves can be cooked like kale and the unopened flower heads can be used like a mini broccoli. A profusion of honey scented white flowers appear in summer which attract all kinds of insects. A very beautiful and edible plant. Although found in coastal areas, it will grow successfully in well drained garden soil. Plants can reach 75cm-1m wide and over 1m in height when in flower. Lily white sea kale has a more delicate flavour and is better for forcing shoots.
