Description
Sorrel ‘Abundance’ is a lovely vibrant green sorrel which isn’t as sharp as many sorrels. It is a hardy perennial which can be propagated easily from divisions. Leaves are fresh and delicious in spring but can be harvested for much of the year. This one came to us as a gift from Stephen Barstow’s forest garden and it has been happily growing for the last six years providing us with a fantastic supply of greens which can be used in sauces, soups and salads. Sorrel ‘Abundance’ is known as a non flowering sorrel, but we have found that it does like to produce a flowering stem in late spring/early summer depending on growing conditions. You can cut back any flowering stems to encourage more leaf growth. This tends to happen when plants are in pots, but once established in the ground they seem to settle down and don’t flower if they are getting enough moisture from the soil.
